Architecture Forum in the North - 11

Our Architecture Forum returns, now in its 11th year, and Black Marble and Microsoft once again invite you to join us for a unique opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and best practices from luminaries in the field of computing, with a cloud focus.

Confirmed speakers and sessions are (in no particular order):

Rob Miles, Microsoft Most Valuable Professional in Developer Technologies

“Creating Connected IoT devices using Azure IoT Hub”

Embedded devices are now incredibly powerful and astonishingly cheap. A WiFi enabled processor with a useful range of inputs and outputs can now be had for less than the price of a pint of beer. In this session Rob will explain how these devices can be programmed and connected to Azure IoT Hub to build secure and manageable applications. He’ll also be talking about disruptive new networking technologies that are changing the way we deploy connected devices. There may be robots involved. And also cheese.

Ed Thomson, Principle Program Manager (Microsoft)

“Ship-It with Azure Pipelines”

An introduction to Azure Pipelines and how you can use it to build and deploy your applications to production – whether you’re building a .NET application and deploying it on-premises, building a node.js application and deploying it to or anything in between.

Giles Davies, Azure Application Development specialist (Microsoft)

“Containers bingo; Docker, Kubernetes, Azure”

Containers are a key technology that are being rapidly adopted, and if you’re not using them already you probably will be in the future. This session will cover what a container is and why you’d use them, the lifecycle of containers including registries and DevOps as well as working with container orchestrators. For your buzzword bingo scorecard we’ll cover Docker, Azure App Services, Azure Container Instances, Azure Container Registry, Kubernetes, the virtual Kubelet, Service Fabric, DevOps and more.

Martin Woodward, Principle Group Program Manager (Microsoft)Â

“60,000 Tests In Six Minutes - Creating A Reliable Pipeline, Eliminate Flaky Tests And Deploy Safely But Quickly”Â

Martin Woodward digs into the testing transformation his team at Microsoft underwent and they started on their DevOps journey. He explains how they used to test their products and the issues (both technical and cultural) this presented and how they transformed to safely test in production.

Gary Short, Cloud Solution Architect (Advanced Analytics & AI) (Microsoft)

“How I won 500 Quid at Royal Ascot and what that can teach you about AI”

Galiya Warrier, Data Solution Architect (Microsoft)

“Inside Deep Learning: how to apply Convolutional Neural Networks for computer vision”
